BAF Motorsport – K-Brace® Generic Fitting Instructions

Note: These are generic fitting instructions. Installation may vary slightly depending on the vehicle model.

Important: Some K-Brace® models are designed to bolt directly into existing factory mounting points and may not require drilling or rivnut installation.

If your brace aligns with existing threaded mounting points, you can install the **K-Brace® directly using the supplied bolts.

Only follow the drilling and rivnut installation steps if your installation requires new mounting points or existing holes need to be opened to the correct size.**

Important Installation Notes

⚠ Ensure all mounting points are checked and correctly marked before drilling any holes.

⚠ Always ensure the K-Brace® is centred and level relative to the vehicle, not the ground.

⚠ Ensure rivnuts are fully compressed and securely installed before fitting the K-Brace®.

⚠ If interior trim or carpet needs to be cut, measure carefully before making any cuts.

⚠ After installation, it is recommended to re-check all bolts after 1–2 weeks of driving.

Tools Required

Tools Required

  • Drill (required for installations where holes need drilling or enlarging)
  • 11mm drill bit (for M8 rivnuts)
  • 13mm drill bit (for M10 rivnuts)
  • Supplied DIY rivnut installation tool (included in the K-Brace® kit)
  • Spanners: 13mm, 17mm and 19mm (ratchet spanners recommended but standard ring spanners work well)
  • Marker pen or pencil
  • Trim removal tools (recommended)
  • Ruler or tape measure
  • Spirit level (for levelling the K-Brace® relative to the vehicle)
  • Centre punch and hammer (recommended for accurate drilling)

Tip: Ratchet spanners are recommended for easier rivnut installation, but standard ring spanners will also work perfectly well.

Step 1 – Remove Rear Trim

Remove all rear interior trim panels including:

  • Boot floor
  • Side panels
  • Rear lower trim pieces

On some vehicles you may also need to remove the rear seats in order to access and remove the side panels.

Step 2 – Position the K-Brace®

Attach any supplied “C” brackets to the K-Brace®.

Place the K-Brace® into the vehicle to determine the correct mounting position. Use the brace itself to identify where the mounting holes will need to be drilled.

Use a marker pen or pencil to mark the hole locations.

If your brace does not include C-brackets, position the K-Brace® directly in place and mark the hole locations through the mounting holes.

In this case, use a spirit level and tape measure to ensure the K-Brace® is centred and level relative to the vehicle, not the ground, before marking the holes.

Step 3 – Drilling Mounting Holes (If Required)

Some K-Brace® models may require drilling, while others may simply require existing holes to be opened to the correct size.

For some installations you may need to mark and drill the holes from scratch, depending on the vehicle and mounting points.

Before drilling, it is recommended to use a centre punch and hammer on your marked hole locations. This creates a small indentation that helps keep the drill bit centred and prevents it from wandering.

Tip: When drilling new holes, start with a pilot hole of approximately 5–6mm. This helps keep the drill bit centred and makes it easier to drill accurately.

If a larger hole is required, gradually increase the drill size:

  • Start with 5–6mm pilot hole
  • Increase to 11mm
  • If required, increase further to 13mm for M10 rivnuts

Rivnut hole sizes:

  • M8 Rivnut – 11mm hole
  • M10 Rivnut – 13mm hole

Ensure the holes are drilled straight and remove any burrs before installing the rivnuts.

Step 4 – Install Rivnuts (If Required)

Install the rivnuts using the DIY rivnut installation tool supplied in your K-Brace® kit.

This tool is included to allow easy installation of rivnuts without needing to purchase a dedicated rivnut tool.

For installation you will need spanners:

  • M8 rivnut tool setup: 13mm and 17mm spanners
  • M10 rivnut tool setup: 17mm and 19mm spanners

Ratchet spanners are recommended as they make installation easier, but standard ring spanners will also work well.

You can watch how the tool works here:

Tip: Ensure the rivnut is held firmly in place while tightening so it compresses fully and does not spin in the hole.

Ensure the rivnuts are fully compressed and securely installed before proceeding.

Step 5 – Trim Carpet / Interior Panels

The carpet or trim panels may need to be cut to allow clearance for the K-Brace® and mounting brackets.

You can:

  • Cut around the installed C-brackets, or
  • Transfer the measurements and marks from the K-Brace® location onto the trim or carpet before cutting.

In some cases it may be possible to simply cut small holes in the carpet and mount the K-Brace® or C-brackets directly on top of the carpet, depending on the vehicle and trim thickness.

Use a ruler or tape measure to ensure accurate cuts and alignment.

Cut carefully to ensure a clean and neat fit.

Step 6 – Reinstall Trim

Reinstall the carpet and any interior panels that were removed earlier.

Ensure everything sits correctly around the installed mounting points.

Step 7 – Install the K-Brace®

Position the K-Brace® and bolt it into the installed rivnuts or existing mounting points.

Due to natural variations in vehicle chassis and mounting points, it may take a small amount of adjustment, trial and error, or gentle pulling on the brace to align the bolts with the holes.

Please persevere when aligning the brace — this is normal and does not indicate a manufacturing fault, as all vehicles can vary slightly.

Once aligned, install the bolts and tighten all hardware securely before reinstalling any remaining trim pieces.

Post-Installation Check

After installation, drive the vehicle as normal and monitor for any unusual noises.

If you experience any squeaking or movement when cornering, check that all mounting bolts are tightened correctly.

It is recommended to re-check all bolts after 1–2 weeks of driving to ensure everything remains secure after the brace has settled.
